The Ayu Bhava, the House of Longevity and Death
The eighth bhava is the eighth of the twelve houses, a domain of life rather than a mere astronomical division. It is known as the Ayu bhava, the house of longevity, and also as the Mrityu bhava, the house of death. The lord of this house is accordingly called the Ashtamesh (the lord of the eighth) or the Mrityuesh (the lord of death). It is from this bhava that one ascertains the native's lifespan, death, the place of death, the cause of death, and the fame or infamy that follows after it.
The Karaka: Shani
The karaka (the natural significator) of this bhava is Shani, Saturn.
