Mercury in the 8th House
Randhra Bhav — longevity, transformation, occult
Favourable Results
When Budha (Mercury) occupies the 8th house (the Randhra Bhava, the house of longevity, transformation, and the occult), the native (the person whose chart it is) is gifted, illustrious, benevolent, humble, and long-lived. He sustains his family lineage (kula) and honours his guests. He takes an interest in occult and secret knowledge (gupta vidya), in the learning of the shastras (the scriptures), and the like. He becomes renowned both in his own land and abroad. He may become a judge, and holds the authority to mete out punishment to others. He enjoys cordial relations with women, and his wife too gives him delight. He becomes the father of several sons, and his enemies (shatru) are defeated. The native's death comes in comfort, at a place of pilgrimage (tirtha) or some such holy site. If this Budha is joined with a masculine graha (a male planet), it gives still more favourable results; Budha alone does not give results as good.
Unfavourable Results
The native is ungrateful, evil-minded, adulterous, untruthful, and arrogant. He suffers from shoola (colic, a sharp piercing pain) and from diseases of the tongue, the teeth, and the nerves (nadis); his ailment often cannot be diagnosed easily. He has to suffer demotion in his post at work, or loss of wealth in business. For no reason at all he places obstacles in the way of others' work even as it is succeeding. Being excessively lustful, he has sexual relations with women who are not his own, and in the end he becomes degraded (patita). He has no brothers or kinsmen, or else they forsake his company. He may even have to endure imprisonment.
