Mercury in the 9th House

Dharma Bhavdharma, fortune, higher learning

Favourable Results

When Budha (Mercury) occupies the 9th house (the Dharma Bhava, the house of dharma, fortune, and higher learning), the native (the person whose chart it is) is righteous (dharmatma), learned, wealthy, master of his senses (jitendriya), charitable, and truthful, and is devoted to his father and to his elders and gurus. He is the lamp of his lineage (kuladipaka, the one who brings honour to his family). He suppresses the wicked and helps the virtuous. He has wells, gardens, and the like built. He attains wealth, property, and honour through the strength of his learning (vidya) and through his benevolence. His fortune (bhagya) shines especially in the later years of his life. He gains comfort through his servants and his sons. He takes an interest in yoga, meditation (dhyana), and austerity (tapasya). He has yajnas (fire rituals) and the like performed at places of pilgrimage (tirtha). He is himself a master of language, music, and the religious scriptures (the dharmik shastras).

Unfavourable Results

Generally, the unfavourable influence of Budha makes the native one who walks the wrong path (kumargagami) and a reviler of the Vedas. He is greatly arrogant about his own intellect (buddhi) and bears malice toward his guru. He has a defect of speech (vani dosha). He is afflicted with many diseases. His father too suffers considerable hardship. His wife's health and the state of her mind are poor. His children too are worthless and give him no comfort. Believing in magic and sorcery (jadu-tona), amulets (taabiz), and the like brings ruin upon the home.
