Favourable Results

The native (jataka, the person whose chart it is) is charitable, of a jovial and witty disposition, radiant with vigour (tejasvi), intelligent, and learned. He travels through other regions and provinces. He is wealthy, and he gains wealth through marriage, or through a will, a legacy, and the like. He will be fated to enjoy only one of two blessings: either education (vidya) or the happiness of his mother (mata), but not both. He takes a special interest in dharma (righteous duty and the spiritual path), in the practice of yoga (yogabhyasa), or in spirituality (adhyatma).

It has often been held that in this bhava (this domain of life, here the house of longevity and transformation) the Moon (Chandra) forms an alpayu yoga, a combination indicating a short life span; but this is not what is actually seen in practice. If the birth takes place by day during the krishna paksha (the dark, waning fortnight), or by night during the shukla paksha (the bright, waxing fortnight), then Chandra, like a mother, will surely protect the person's life span. In the same way, if Chandra is strong (bali) by being placed in a sign such as Vrishabha (Taurus) or Karka (Cancer), it grants a long life (dirghayu). For this reason, considerable care is generally needed when determining longevity (ayu).

Unfavourable Results

Throughout life the native suffers from many kinds of disease (roga), such as loss of appetite (aruchi), weak digestive fire (mandagni), prameha (a class of urinary disorders, including diabetes), disorders of the vata humour (vata-roga), blood disorders (rakta-vikara), and the like. Because of this, the coming and going of vaidyas (Ayurvedic physicians) and doctors in his house never ceases. He carries a fear of water. Touching the feet of elders and receiving their blessings will keep protecting him from these afflictions.

He is of unsteady intellect, wretched, anxious, forward to the point of brazenness (pragalbha), weak in body, sinful, and poor. He suffers loss of wealth through the state (through fines or confiscation by the ruling power) and through theft. The secret matters of his household are let out by his servants.
