When Shani (Saturn, the slow, disciplinary, karmic graha) occupies the 2nd house (the Dhana Bhava, the house of wealth, speech, and family), the native (the person whose chart it is) is very wealthy, just, religious, compassionate, truthful, and thrifty. He has a fondness for collecting precious and valuable things. Such a native travels to foreign lands (videsh), and abroad he obtains wealth, honour, and every comfort; but in his own country this Shani does not give wealth. He receives ancestral property, and he himself profits from trade connected with wood and iron. He earns honour through royal favour (rajkripa, the grace of the ruling authority). His enemies stay subdued before him. He quickly reads the thoughts of others. He has an intense interest in dharma-karma (religious duties and observances); he becomes a sannyasi (a renunciate ascetic) and a solitude-loving mathadhisha (the head of a matha, a monastic order).

Unfavourable Results

The native is a liar, a swindler, poor, and devoid of virtues, and he stays afflicted by diseases of the mouth and bones and by vata (wind) disorders. He is given to vices (a vyasani). He speaks deceitful words even to his friends, and so he is skilled at openly stealing from his own kinsfolk and at cheating women. He is punished by the state. The native's wealth is of no use to him. Such people remain estranged from their own wives. His marriage comes late, and after his marriage, episodes of financial loss occur in his in-laws' household (susral) as well.
